New Signs and Bug Hotel

12 Apr 2025

Lovely morning on the field. This time our work party tasks included strimming, watering and developing wild flower areas. It’s been such a baking dry few weeks that the new plants need additional help getting started. There was some energetic driving-in of posts for our fabulous new signs into very dry ground! There are now three WMF logos marking the ‘entrances’ of the public footpaths to the Field and Wildlife Area signs on the gates through the new hedge. Everyone enjoyed a break for sunny elevenses.

Huge thanks to Wild Roots Creative for organising and building the new deluxe insect hotel, in the Wildlife Only Area, with their lovely volunteers. The finest of bee B and Bs! Part of the Bats, Bugs and Meadows Project.

The new hedge and trees are greening up and looking healthy and there’s frog spawn and water beetles in the pond. Regular bird recording walks are underway and there are dates in the calendar for small insect and mammal monitoring. Katie has started some fixed-point photography to keep track of the many changes. Busy, busy, busy!
