Sealing the pond base

22 July 2026

A busy morning meticulously preparing more of the dew pond base to make it more leak-proof. The main tasks included removing loose soil accumulations using trowels, brushes and - yes - vacuum cleaners!, before pointing up the spaces between the cobbles with mortar mix. This was left to set, covered and shaded against the heat. There are still tadpoles in the the pool and a multitude of skaters.

Other tasks included working on the dry stone wall, watering and weeding the common dog violets - perfect butterfly habitat.

Suzanne supplied excellent vegan chocolate crunch for break time. We were pleased to welcome new volunteers to today’s session and to chat with a couple of very interested passers-by.
