Meadow creation
19 Sept and 5 Oct 2026
The wildflower meadow was mown by tractor early in the month, as we welcomed the first showers there’d been for a long time. To discourage the rye grass from growing back too vigorously, we cut parts of the meadow further by hand, using scythes. rakes and strimmers over a couple of morning sessions. Removing the trimmings prevents nutrients from being returned to the soil, developing a more inviting habitat in which wildflowers can thrive.
