Swift tower in place

4 June 2025

If you go up to the field today... you'll see this wonderful tower. We hope this tower will be home to the swifts, house martins and bats that are already feeding on the increasing number of insects on the field.

There's a solar powered call system, looping between swifts and house martins, which should attract the birds. Do let us know if you see any birds prospecting this very fine new home.

Our latest funding grant has focused on the 4Bs - Bees, Bats, Bugs and Birds. Check out the Nature Notes page for lists of invertebrates spotted on Wild Maple Field.

It remains dry - volunteers have visited regularly to water the thirsty young plants. Trees are showing signs of stress. Good weather for slowly cracking on with sealing the pond base, though - loose material has been painstakingly brushed away and mortar applied to the central area. A sealant layer will complete the job… eventually.
