Autumn tasks
Tea break - 8Nov2025
Wellies on today - the grass is back to being rather damp! Tasks for this work party were many and varied:
Cutting back this year’s bramble growth from the wildlife only area.
Tree popping (using the ‘Popper’ tool to move self-seeded wild rose and hawthorn from the limestone bank to re-plant in the copses and hedge)
Planting elms in the copses - replacing saplings that have died
Removing grass from the limestone bank using the strimmer
Planting thistle along the conifer wood boundary edge to provide food sources for Silver Washed Fritillary butterflies
Weeding around the trees in the Tall Tree woodland and checking tree health.
Eight volunteers split out across the field to achieve these tasks - and came together for some delicious homemade apple and cinnamon cake. We had some good chat about bats over a cuppa - our final bat survey of the year took place on 8Nov.
