Wildflower planting
20 Nov 2025
Wrapped up warm, volunteers spent a crisp and sunny morning planting wild flower plug plants, including Red Clover, Field Scabious and Birds Foot Trefoil. These should serve to attract pollinators as they flower and become established - and will further increase biodiversity in the Field.
It was lovely to see people sitting on the two benches, or walking through, enjoying the field. Several people stopped to comment how they appreciate and love watching the transformation of Wild Maple Field into a space for wildlife.
It was also encouraging to see people helpfully heeding the signs asking for dogs to be on leads, so as not to disturb wildlife; ground nesting birds such as Meadow Pipits have recently been seen in the field, and it will be particularly important that they're not disturbed.
